Looking deeper

Hello dear readers!

As we continue our study of the book of Ezra, we have been discovering a lot of history and geography of the land we now refer to as the Middle East.  Those who take an interest in weather will know
that the temperatures in this area of the world are often extreme and water is a very precious commodity.  The great rivers like the Tigris, Euphrates, and Nile are therefore immensely important.  Students of Christian Science know that rivers are highly significant in a spiritual sense too.  A recent Bible Lesson (subject: Life) gave us much to ponder on this topic as we explored Genesis 2: 10, 11, 13, 14 and Ezekiel 47: 1, 3 - 5, 8, 9.

And you may remember that a recent post ("Cyrus and Leadership Lessons" July 14) shared some interesting information about the Euphrates:

Hello!  Here is an interesting titbit: “Cyrus…entered Babylon by diverting the Euphrates from its usual channel and marching by the river bed.”  Dummelow p. 442

One of our special readers (thank you Pam) has shared a most interesting article by L. Ivimy Gwalter called The Great River, The River Euphrates.  You'll find it in the February 8, 1958 issue of the Christian Science Sentinel.

You might like to pop into your local Christian Science Reading Room to check it out.  Or go to jsh-online.com to find it.
