Luke 9: 31 Transfiguration

I’ve been in the wilderness somewhat because my computer won’t even turn on.  Man coming tomorrow.

It is interesting how a sentence in the Bible can have gone un-noted by me for years, but when I read Luke 9:31 for this blog it begged to be interpreted. 
It was as if I had never even read it before.  The story is the Transfiguration of Jesus when Peter and John and James were there as witnesses.  Moses and Elijah, ”…appeared in glory, and spoke of his (Jesus’) decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem.”

Some other translations of this verse:

Moffatt - “…telling how he must go through with his death and departure at Jerusalem.

The Living Bible - “…speaking of his death at Jerusalem, to be carried out in accordance with his plan.”

JB Phillips’ The New Testament in Modern English - “...their talk was about the way he must take and the end he must fulfil in Jerusalem.”

New Living Translation -  “…about the way in which he would soon fulfil God’s purpose by dying in Jerusalem.” (Found under BibleStudyTools.com.)

Now the Bible tells us that Elijah (Elias) ascended into heaven without any evidence of death.  And Deuteronomy 34:5, 6 has been taken to mean that this was also true of Moses.  One of the translations uses the phrase “glorious splendour,” with regard to the appearance of Moses and Elijah.  Love it!  There is a hymn??

How exciting is that?  That Jesus had the opportunity to speak with those men about his coming experience of overcoming death and the grave.

“Jerusalem” is very prominent around here.  Think I will postpone looking into that one – seems like a biggie.
