How glad I am to have re-read this We Knew
Mary Baker Eddy book. One finds that one has grown somewhat since the
last reading and is able to grasp a little more of the spiritual significance
of the accounts.
What a dear man John Salchow was. What a pillar of spiritual strength he was
to his beloved Leader; and how grateful we must be for his faithful service
over many years. He demonstrated that with God all things are possible in
the service of his Leader.
And Hermann
Hering – his comments about his work as the second First Reader at The
Mother Church are so helpful. He even gives an example of the readings he
prepared for Wednesday Evening Meetings, including the hymns. He
emphasises the fact that Mrs. Eddy expected the readings to being out healing.
This is interesting on page 446: “Occasionally I
would make a few remarks in opening the testimonies, referring to the healing
points brought out in the reading and asking for testimonies of healing in
support of these points. Sometimes I would sum up the meeting and the
testimonies at the close so as to strengthen the healing lesson that had been
learned.” Wow!
I love this man’s sense of humour!
